How do I move issues on a sprint board?

Darrelle Wood June 6, 2019

I want to transition issues from done to in progress to resolved but am unable to move them (even the ones assigned to me)

I am an admin user

I cannot see the transitions page or conditions tab

I cannot use permission helper (this feature might be disabled)

Hi @Darrelle Wood ,

With regards the above issue, please confirm that:

  1. You have the transition issue permission on the project the board is based off or the project the issue comes from.
  2. Make sure there is a transition between closed and in progress
  3. Make sure there are no properties configured that blocks/rewrites permission once issues get to done.
  4. Make sure there are not conditions in place restricting who can transition the issue once closed.

You mentioned you are an admin, however, can you confirm if you are the project admin or the JIRA server admin? The later can only edit workflows associated with their projects if the workflow is not shared by another project.

The former on the other-hand should be able to edit any workflow.

Confirm your privilege level and let us know this(also get us a screenshot of the workflow so we can be sure there is a transition available from Done to In Progress status.)

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I cant action any of those steps you mentioned as  I don't know where the transition/conditions would show.

I am project admin

Hi @Darrelle Wood ,

I did not mean this because I cannot tell which status leads to what status.

  1. Open an issue.
  2. Click on the View Workflow link.
  3. Get us a screenshot of the workflow.

This is not available when you do not have the permission to View Read-only workflow in the project.

I will suggest also reaching out to your JIRA server admin for assistance as it seems you are not the admin of the server.

Ask him to help you confirm each of the items we mentioned.

Thanks.

From the above it is clear there is no transition from closed to In progress.

Hence, edit your workflow, add a transition from closed status to the in progress status, publish your changes.

After this, you should be able to drag issues from closed back to in progress.

I see the confusion. There is a typo in my original question- it should say ‘to do’ not ‘done’.  The issue is is can’t move the issues at all between any status

thanks anyway

Hi @Darrelle Wood

Check your permissions first. You can use the permission helper to check if you have the transition issue permission.

If yes and you are a JIRA admin, run integrity checker and fix any errors returned.

Should the problem persist copy the workflow(workflows can be corrupted which leads to unexpected behavior) and associate the copied workflow with the project instead then try to transition the issue again.

Check your logs to see if an error is thrown while you are attempting to transition the issue.

Hello @Darrelle Wood

You need to have "transition" issue permission to move issue from one workflow status to another. In addition please check with you admin, as there might be custom "conditions" attached workflow transitions which are preventing you from transitioning issues.
