I want to try flow metrics for my team however I am not able to find the flow metrics in reports section in jira. althgough I know all 6 metrics in theory I am struggling to understand which report should I use in Jira to plot these flow metrics. Can some one please help if there's a way to plot flow metrics in jira for an individual scrum team. (we don't use jira align. )

Hi @Swetha Dilip  ðŸ‘‹
Welcome to the Community!

If you consider installing third-party add-ons, option for you can be Time in Status
You can get various real time reports with add-on. To get total duration, all you need is to:

  • create a status group;
  • choose statuses;
  • click the "Save" button.

Add-on developed by my team. You can also book a live demo - we'll show you the application inside out and answer all your questions.

I hope this helps 😊

Hi @Swetha Dilip,

You should first look over the Jira's reports such as Control Chart (for cycle time), Team Velocity (for throughput) and Cumulative Flow Diagram (for flow load). But be aware that some of these reports are specific to Kanban boards; so they might not be all available in your Scrum board!

For measuring flow metrics effectively, my advice is to search for an app on Atlassian Marketplace that offers all of these.

If you consider the idea of using an app, have a look over our Great Gadgets app - it offers some dashboard gadgets that allows you to measure all the metrics you mentioned:

  • Cycle Time or Flow Time Trend (measured as a Control Chart, Trend Chart, histogram chart)

  • Velocity / Throughput

  • Flow Load - as CFD chart by issue count or story points per status

Have a look over this article to see all the flow metrics that this app can measure and how: How to track scaled-agile (SAFe) projects in Jira with Great Gadgets app.

Hello @Swetha Dilip ,

Welcome to the community!

To get all the reports you want on different metrics, I recommend using a marketplace app. I can recommend Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira , the oldest and leading "Time in Status" app in Atlassian Marketplace, which is built by my team at OBSS. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud, and Data Center.

Timepiece mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status or each assigneeYou can combine the time for multiple statuses to get metrics like Issue Age, Cycle Time, Lead Time, Resolution Time etc.

Lead Time.png

For all numeric report types, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. For example total cycle time per kanban team or average resolution time per sprint, week, month, issuetype, request type, etc. The ability to group by parts of dates (year, month, week, day, hour) or sprints is particularly useful here since it allows you to compare different time periods or see the trend.

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.

Timepiece reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts. And the app has a REST API so you can get the reports from Jira UI or via REST. Also you can export the reports in to various formats easily.

Visit Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira to explore and enjoy a 30-day free trial to experience the full range of features.

If you wish, you can also schedule a live demo. We will provide a comprehensive overview of the application and address any inquiries you may have.

Hope it helps,

Gizem

Hi @Swetha Dilip ,

Welcome to the community!

It is likely that you need to look at multiple standard reports plus possibly also create a dashboard with gadgets on to complete the picture you are after. You need to look at the definitions of your 6 measures and look at the way you have structured your Jira

As long as your individual scrum team is working in their own scrumboard the standard board reports will be able to give you a lot:

- Cumulative flow diagram

- Control chart

- Velocity report

Are you on Data center or Cloud?
