How do I limit contractor access?

dexter.sue March 27, 2022

Hi,

We have a company project with two boards that share epics.

We would like to give our contractor team only access to one of those boards and not the rest of the Atlassian stack.

Is there a way to set this up?

Thanks!

Hi @dexter.sue

You can limit access to one board. Boards are just filters - so you could...

  • Go to Board Settings > General
  • Select Edit Filter Shares
  • Limit access to the filter - for example, provide access to a Group which excludes the contractors

...but, this doesn't stop them seeing the Issues themselves, just the board they're filtered onto.

If you want to limit Issue access - your options are...

  • Project PermissionsSplit the Issues onto two Projects - limit Browse Issues View Aggregated Data access on your internal Project, to hide the Project from the contractors
  • Issue SecurityIf you need to remain in one Project, you could use Issue Security to limit access to specific Issues. For example, you could...
    • Set the default visibility to internal only, then release Issues for wider consumption
    • Have access levels set using automation - perhaps using the unique identifiers which split the data onto the two boards?

Let us know if any of these options sound right for your scenario!
