Problem: Hi team, I've created a new board called Board 2. I've created an EPIC within this board and would like to create child work items. I'm able to retrieve child work items created in Board 2 but I can't find items created in Board 1.
Is it not possible to find and link child work items across boards?
Steps I've taken:
1. Created an Epic called Activation Glow in Board 2
2. Created two child tickets in Board 2.
3. Open the Epic "Activation Glow" and selected the "plus" sign to retrieve child work items.
- I'm able to see child work items that had been created in step 1. But I'm unable to see any tickets that are created in another board, also known as Board 1.
Hello @Justine Chan
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Items are not created "in" boards. Items exit in Spaces.
Boards are a way to view collections of items. The contents of a board are based on a filter.
So let us start by understanding the type of Space in which you Epic exists, and the types of Spaces in which the child issues exit.
In the navigation panel on the left, under the expandable section named "Spaces" you will find the names of the Spaces. Some of those will be expandable and show more features or boards nested under them.
Next to a Space name is an ellipsis button (three periods).
If you click on that a pop up will appear. At the bottom of that pop up are two lines that identify the Space type. The lines will say something like
Software space
Company-managed
Get that information for the space that contains your Epic and the spaces that contain the child issues and share it with us.
A general rule of the Jira Cloud environment is that Epics from a Company-managed space can have child issues only from the same or other Company-managed spaces.
Epics and child issues in Team-managed spaces can only be parent/children to issues in the same Team-managed space.
