Basically my main task has several sub tasks of Level 1. One of those sub tasks need to have several more sub tasks of Level 2
In other words, when all sub tasks of Level 2 get completed the connected sub task of Level 1 gets completed. When all the sub tasks of Level 1 get completed, the Main Task get completed.
This feature I have used in MS-Project in very old versions and I am sure there must be a way this could be handled in Jira
Hi Consultant - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
In Jira you cannot have multiple levels of sub-tasks. All sub-tasks are at level -1.
Hi @Consultant
Welcome to the community !!
You need premium subscription to create issue types above Epic. Another option would be create issue links to create a multi level hierarchy at any level above and below epics. However you would need a custom solution to view this hierarchy. If you would be interested in an add-on from mktplace for this need, you can try out our plugin.
The app shows your Issue hierarchy in a tree view. There is an additional JQL filter as well for child issues. You can add it as a dashboard gadget too.
Also the app can help you easily Sum up values (time tracking/story point/custom numeric fields) to see overall progress for your Issues at each parent level, in percentage terms.
Do give it a try.
(Disclaimer: I work on RVS, the vendor for this app)

Hi there @Consultant
You seem to be on a Free Plan of Jira.
Out of the box the issuetypes relate to each other hierarchically in Jira in three layers: Epic > Task/Story > Subtask
If you move to Jira Premium you can work with the issues in the Plan view, visualising the work breakdown structure. In Premium you can also add more layers to your hierarchy
