How do I create a new map status category

Can't find board settings anywhere. It's not under the ... dots. Need to create a new map status to add to my board

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What type of project are you using? Get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

The method for modifying the board depends on the type of project.

Company-managed software. Does this need to be changed to something else? If so how do I do that? Thank you

Is the new status already included in the workflow of the project issues that are shown in the board?

If so, then to map the Status to a Column of the board...

When viewing the board you should see the name of the board in the navigation panel on the left. If you hover your mouse over the space to the right of the board name there you should see a three dots button. 

If you click that you should see a Board Settings option. Select that.

You should get a new screen with a new set of options on the left. You should see a Columns option there. Select that.

If there are statuses that are available and not mapped, they will display in the area labeled Unmapped Statuses. Drag the from there and drop the in the desired column.

This is the problem when I click on the three dots the only items I get are configure board and create board. No board settings option

Can you provide a screen image of the screen where you are clicking the dots?

What do you get if you select the Configure Board option? Can you provide a screen image of that also?

Trying to get a status on the back log and UAT. AS you can see they are not in my list of unmapped statuses

Thank you for those screen images. From that I can now tell that your system is not using the new navigation yet. The Board Settings option I described is seen only in the new navigation.

Have you updated the workflow(s) used by the issues shown in the board so that the Backlog status and UAT status are part of those workflows? The Statuses have to be part of the Workflow for at least one of the issue types included in the board in order to be available for mapping to a column.
