I don't want to add some of our external contractors to JIRA as users so they are able to see all of our projects. I want to add them to JIRA so they can only view a single project that I assign them to.
I have read what I can find online and have only seen how to do this on confluence. I have also tried to do this configuration on my own using common sense and it is still not something I can do.
Please help!
It's definitely do-able, but if you are expecting to do this without each contractor consuming a Jira license, it's not possible in a secure way.
The best practice to do this sort of thing is to use one group to manage login access, say a "contractors" group. Add the contractors that need any type of access to Jira to this group and grant the group Application access to Jira Software or Core, depending on the need. Doing this will allow the users to log in, but not have access to anything by default. It's possible that some of your Permissions Schemes may be set more loosely than default, so it would be worth setting up a test user to validate that they cannot see any content.
Next, create a group (you can also skip the group and just add individual users) that will be used to grant access to the Project(s) that the need access to. Referencing your Project(s) Permission Scheme(s), you grant the group (or users) permission to the things that they need to do. This is best done using Project Roles where the Role is granted the permission and groups and users are added to the Role that is appropriate.
The exact steps to follow will be determined by how your instance is set up, but you should be able to adapt these steps pretty easily for your Jira environment.
@Traci Jones you change the permission scheme for that particular project and edit the permission scheme. below links will help you.
