Hi Beth! It sounds like you are using Next-gen project given the roadmap reference. Please let me know if my assumption is incorrect. If you don’t want a story to be tide to the roadmap don’t link it to any epic.
With that said, I’m a bit confused by you question regarding multiple boards and Kanban sprints so I may have missed the mark here.
Thanks for trying to help. Let me try to explain better.
I am using Jira and the roadmap I have which exists in Portfolio is showing both Epics and user stories from the same project in it. Right now some Epics have user stories linked to them but the stories I have created are currently not linked to any Epics. But all Epics and stories are appearing on the roadmap.
This project has multiple boards, so 1 board is for sprints (used by certain people). I created a separate Kanban board within the same project, for my stories. None of my stories are linked to Epics and they do not exist in our backlog because I am following the Kanban methodology.
But when we go to the roadmap for our project, we see everything - Epics and stories linked to Epics, and then the stories I created for my Kanban board which are in a section of the roadmap called “stories not linked to any Epic” (or something like that). It causes the roadmap to look really big because of my section of stories which are not linked to any Epic. As I understand it, a Kanban board should not even be part of a roadmap, so I am not sure how my stories are getting on the roadmap other than that they are part of the same project as stories linked to Epics.
I hope this helps clarify my problem somehow. I’d appreciate any help!

ah...this is associated w/ Portfolio. I don't have experience w/ that product. I will move this post into the Portfolio collection in hopes that someone there can pick this up.
