How can I transition back to prior status via built-in scripts?

Pete P February 19, 2016

There is a handy script called "Bulk Fix Resolutions" that changes an issues resolution state,
Is there a similar function to switch back to a prior status?
Our users frequently push a transition button prematurely and I need to set it back to another part of the workflow.

The Resolution script is there because Resolution is a funny field which you can break and not be able to fix easily.

Status is not a field, it's an indication of position in the workflow, and it can only be changed by moving through transitions.  So, you need to have a transition from the "wrong" state back to the correct one in your workflow (you could limit it to admins only if you want, but if it's the users making the error, I'd let them do it too, so they can correct their own mistakes).  Once you have that, you can run a filter for the "wrong" ones, and use "bulk edit" to push them all back through the new transition.

Thanks Nic for the details.

I was hoping I didn't have to add a back button to each of my statuses but it appears that is the case.  It would be nice if this were something I could enable globally rather than modifying all the workflows in my projects...
