Hi @Lissette Condo

You can also update this directly in Jira by following these steps:

  1. Go to Jira and from the left-hand menu, navigate to Filters > Search Work Items.
  2. Find and select the tickets you would like to remove the sprint from.
  3. In the top-right corner, click the three dots (...) menu and select Bulk Change Work Items.
  4. Select the tickets you want to update and click Next.
  5. Choose Edit Work Items and click Next.
  6. Search for and select Change Sprint.
  7. Enter the Sprint Value ID for the sprint you want to keep on the tickets.
  8. Click Next, review and confirm the changes, then complete the bulk update.

To find the Sprint Value ID:

  • Go to Filters > Search Work Items and use JQL.
  • The sprint field will display the sprint name followed by the Sprint Value ID in parentheses.
  • Use the number shown in parentheses as the Sprint Value ID when making the update.

Hi @Lissette Condo

What problem are you trying to solve?  That is, "why do this?"

The sprint field contains the list of sprints a work item was in when the sprint started (and possibly completed) over time.  It is the record of what happened, and can help teams learn about how much, and when, work items carry over between sprints.  Changing the values in the field alters that history...preventing teams from using the data to improve how they work.

Kind regards,
Bill

Update: I realized it is a task ticket, which is why it is not allowing me to remove the new sprint value.

I was trying to remove the new sprint value because some tickets were completed in the previous sprint, but were not closed, and were moved to the new sprint.

Thanks for explaining that.  If it is a "one time thing", I recommend leaving it alone, and using it as a learning opportunity for the team.

Hi @Lissette Condo

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I would first click the Sprint field in the issue view to open inline edit mode. If your project permissions allow editing, a small X will appear next to each sprint name in the dropdown list; click it to remove the unwanted sprint.

If the field is locked, your Jira workflow is likely preventing edits on completed tickets. I would temporarily reopen the ticket by moving it back to an active status, such as In Progress, clearing the historical sprint, and then transitioning it back to Done.

You should also ensure your Jira administrator has granted you the Edit Issues permission under Project settings > Permissions if the field remains completely uneditable across all statuses.
