How can I organize a personal project with multiple deadlines and dependencies in Jira?

I’m using Jira to think through a personal project that has many tasks, deadlines, and dependencies.

For example, the project includes planning a budget, maintaining a list of participants, booking different services, sending invitations, scheduling activities, and completing final preparations. Some tasks depend on other tasks being completed first.

I would like to organize this in Jira without making the project unnecessarily complicated.

Would it be better to create separate epics for the major areas and individual tasks underneath them, or would a simpler structure work better?

I’m also interested in recommendations for managing deadlines, dependencies, recurring tasks, and last-minute changes in a personal project.

What Jira features or workflow structure would you recommend for this type of project?

The simplest setup is one Jira business space using the Project management template. Use Categories for the major areas, such as Budget, Guests, Venue, Vendors, Travel, and Final preparations, then assign each Task to the appropriate category. Use subtasks only for small steps that do not need their own dependency or separate reporting.

Add Start date and Due date to the Tasks and use the Timeline to review the schedule. Link dependent Tasks with blocks and is blocked by; Jira can display those relationships on the Timeline when the work items belong to the same space.

For recurring work, open the Task and select Set to recur from the Due date or Automation menu. Keep the workflow lightweight, for example To do, In progress, Waiting or Blocked, and Done, then adjust dates directly on the Timeline when plans change.

If you are already using a software space, Epics can replace Categories for the main areas when you specifically need parent-child hierarchy and progress roll-up. For a single personal project, I would not create separate Jira spaces for each area.
