How can I make the epics, stories, and tasks I created visible on the board?

I can see the epics, stories, and tasks I created in the list section, but I cannot see them on the board. Could you please help me solve this issue?

Hi @Yusuf Barış , can you share more info on the type of space you are using? Boards are driven by filters that define what is displayed. How to control this depends on whether you are using CMP or TMP space. Also are we working with Software, JSM or Business spaces. Screenshots can help.

First of all, thank you for your responses. I started using Jira for a course I am taking at my university, and we are a team of five people. So I would like to mention that I have only recently started using Jira.

At the beginning, I selected the project management option and then created epics, stories, and tasks. In our class, when our teacher created them, they also appeared in the board section. However, in our case they did not appear there, and I could not fully understand the reason why.

I am sharing a few screenshots below. I hope they will be helpful and that we can solve this issue.

Thank you all again.

Hello @Yusuf Barış

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

In addition to what @Jack Brickey and @Arkadiusz Wroblewski said, another element to consider is the type of board you are using if you are working with a Software project.

With a Software project you can have a Scrum board or a Kanban board.

For a Scrum board the Board view shows only the items that are in Active Sprints. For such a board you must create a Sprint on the Backlog tab, add items to the Sprint, and then Start the Sprint. Then those items will display in the board.

Hello @Yusuf Barış

Thank you for the screen images that you shared with @Jack Brickey

Can you please tell us the space type you are using? Click the ... button next to the Space name in the navigation panel on the left and tell us what the last two lines in the pop-up say. That will be something like

Software space
Company-managed

Both lines are critical to us being able to provide you will accurate advice.

Based on the graphic appearing next to the work items keys, it appears that the work item type is Epic. Epics are a special type of work item. That type of Work Item does not necessarily display on the board, depending on the Space type and board type.

From your image can you click on the Backlog tab and provide a screen image of what you see?

Please provide an image that encompasses the full width of the display. Example:

First of all, thank you very much. In the Software Space section, it says "team-managed.Ekran görüntüsü 2026-03-08 005353.pngEkran görüntüsü 2026-03-08 005415.png

This is my backlog page. I am also sharing my list page again.

Thank you for that information and the screen images.

Based on the Backlog screen you are setup with a Scrum board. Are you familiar with the Scrum methodology and using Sprints? Do you want to continue with Scrum or do you want/need to switch to Kanban?

The reason no items show in the Board view is because with a Scrum board you must add items to Sprint(s) and Start the Sprints for the items in them to display on the Board.

Hello @Yusuf Barış

most likely the issues are not within the board scope, even if you can still see them in the project list.

I would check these first:

Board filter: does the board actually include those epics/stories/tasks?

Status mapping: if their status is not mapped to a board column, they will not appear there

Quick filters: make sure nothing on the board is hiding them

So the key question is really: are those issues matching the board filter + mapped statuses?

Also, @Jack Brickey point/Question is important here, because the steps differ a bit depending on whether this is team-managed or company-managed. Please provide us these information.

I wish you a great Saturday ☀️
