How can I keep the old sprint when it's completed?

Today I completed a sprint and started a new one. What happened is that all the tasks from the previous sprint moved into the active sprint. I am unable to see what were the tasks that got completed in the previous sprint vs the ones in the active sprint.

How can I restore the old sprint and have the old tasks in it?

How can I stop the old sprint tasks from moving into the active sprint?

Hi @Mairna Yousef

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

When you complete a sprint, this event of completing the sprint (along with the tasks that were marked as resolved/done/completed will be recorded in the corresponding Sprint Report.

I am unable to see what were the tasks that got completed in the previous sprint vs the ones in the active sprint.

The Sprint Report shows the list of issues in each sprint. It is useful for your Sprint Retrospective meetings, and also for mid-sprint progress checks.

Alternatively, a way to see information about previous sprints in Company-Managed Projects is to use the Velocity Report.

  • From the board you’d like to see the previous sprint on, click Reports in the left sidebar
  • Select the Velocity Chart
  • A list of recently closed sprints is below the chart

You also asked: How can I restore the old sprint and have the old tasks in it? How can I stop the old sprint tasks from moving into the active sprint?

It seems that you already know that Jira Software lets you reopen sprints that have been previously closed. You'd like to know how you can restore the sprint while having certain tasks in the reopened sprint and vice versa.

This depends on what the scenario was/is while you were completing your previous sprints. How many of them were complete vs incomplete, which of them stayed in your backlog vs which of them moved to another active sprint after the fact?

This article provides you with multiple different scenarios that may address your queries. I recommend having a thorough look at it.

Of course, please feel free to let us know if there's any confusion, questions, or comments.

Hamza
