How can I import a CSV to JIRA when some of the JIRA fields are not available for mapping to?

Craig Barr February 28, 2012

I am trying to import data into JIRA from a CSV. I have been following the steps in the documentation link below:

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Importing+Data+From+CSV

When I get to the "Select field mappings" step there are some JIRA fields that are not available for mapping to. These fields are:

- Parent ID

- Issue ID

- Component(s)

- Time Spent

I would expect these fields to be available since they are common JIRA fields and listed in the documentation for the CSV Importer.

I am using JIRA OnDemand. I think this is version 5.0 but I can't be sure.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Hey Craig

I also had this problem, my fix was simple...

1. Go to Fields Configuration page on your JIRA instance.

2. At the Default Field Configuration , click on Configure

3. Locate affected field name

4. On the left of the affected field name, click on Screens

5. On the Associate field Issue Type to screens page, Select or Tick all screens. This will associate the affected field name to all screens.

6. Click update.

Not all fields appear, that is still my issue.

Hi Craig,

In case you are in OnDemand as you highlighted, then I am afraid that is not the right document. You have this notice in the page: "The information on this page does not apply to JIRA OnDemand."

Please refer to the below links:

1. Importanting Data in OnDemand:

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Importing+Data

2. Restricted Functions in OnDemand:

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Restricted+Functions+in+Atlassian+OnDemand#RestrictedFunctionsinAtlassianOnDemand-jira

All the best :)

Thanks Abdoulaye.

It appears as though JIRA OnDemand does support CSV import via a direct link as discussed in https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/19861/not-able-to-import-a-csv-file

Is there any documented reason why the direct link does not support importing to the fields "Issue ID", "Parent ID", "Componet(s)", "Time Spent"? I couldn't find anything documented. Do I have any options other than hosting JIRA internally?

I know it's a long time since this post, but I too would love an answer to this. It's blocking a peer from ramping up the way they'd like.
