How can I display the % Done from a task/work item in a column on a filter or dashboard

I'd like to know, without a marketplace app, if there is a way to get the % Done statistic from individual work items to display in a column on a filter or dashboard for easy consumption. This is the statistic I am looking for:

The information is not currently made available in a built-in field or through the API. There was a change request about that which was closed by Atlassian as "Won't do".

Without an app you would need to create your own custom field to track that information, and your own automation/scripting to populate it.
