How can I display existing commits directly alongside a Jira ticket?

Hi

Since a few days in Jira Cloud all existing commits mentioning a Jira Issue are still linked to the issue, but the view has been moved to a section named "Deployment" which has to be manually opened :(

How can I set it up so I don't always have to open the section manually to see if there are any linked commits? (Or: How can I get the old view back?)

Thanks

Dieter

Hey @Dieter Guthmann ,

This change was announced here: The New Development Panel Experience

You could check article comments to see some feedback around it.

As for your question - isn't this stored as a user/account property? Meaning, if you, as a user, expand the "Development" panel, next time you open same or other work item in the same space, it will automatically be extended. 👀
On the other hand, if you collapse it (no matter if there are linked entities), it will remain collapse for this or other work items. 🤔

I've tested this right now, and it would appear to work for me.

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi @Dieter Guthmann,

For Jira Cloud, there isn’t a setting to make the Deployment or Development details open by default if that's what you mean. The closest supported setup is to make sure the Development field is visible in the work item’s Details area, so you at least see the linked commit, branch, PR, or build summary without hunting for it.

  1. Open one affected work item.
  2. Go to the space sidebar, select More actions next to the space name, then Space settings.
  3. For a company-managed space, go to Work item layout, then Edit work item layout.
  4. For a team-managed space, go to Work types and open the relevant work type.
  5. Look for Development under Hide when empty.
  6. Move Development into Context fields.
  7. Save the layout.

The full detail view still opens when you select the development activity, but moving Development out of Hide when empty should make the summary easier to see on the work item.

One useful tip that I'm sure you're already aware of through the board view where Jira can show development icons on work item cards when the board has linked branches, commits, pull requests, or deployments, so you can quickly spot whether a work item has development activity before opening it.
