How can I delete/remove an incorrect issue link?

I have added a link to an issue, but mis-typed the issue to which I was linking.
As such it does not appear in the "Issue Links" section of the issue.
However, it does appear from the history that I made an edit and added a link.
I don't want other users to be able to see this mistake. In particular I do not want other watchers to be notified that I added a link to an issue which does not exist.
To make matters worse, I added it to the wrong issue! In truth, the issue to which I added the link does not relate to the issue I mis-typed (although it's fairly obvious what I was aiming at). I want to clear up this confusion.

Hi Gordon,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I'm going to redirect you to this related community post:

On Cloud I don't think it's possible since you don't have access to the database. If you are on server or DataCenter you might be able to track down the history record and delete it from database.

Not recommended , but can be a solution if you are really committed to remove this history item.

Are you on Cloud or Server / Datacenter?

Regards,

Jeroen

Thanks for this. I think we're datacenter, but I'd have to check with the IT crowd. I don't really want to get into hacking the database, it sounds unsafe. It's odd though that there's not a way of finding and removing the false link via the link field. It strikes me that either my attempt to add the link failed (because it wasn't a valid link) or somehow succeeded - but isn't shown. If it didn't succeed why is it in the history? That is - I made my question sound very much as though I was only concerned with hiding my error, but I suppose I world actually like to remove a false link.
