Hi Jira Community,
I’m currently managing a project in Jira and I’ve noticed that there are a number of default labels (such as "customer-support", , "research", etc.) appearing in the label suggestions list. These labels are not relevant to our team and clutter the selection UI.
Is there a way to permanently delete or hide these default or previously used labels from the label dropdown?
I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
As mentioned in other replies, you need to remove a label from all issues, and it will be removed from your Jira instance.
You can use bulk edit to do that at once. Alternatively, you can also use Marketplace apps like Advanced Label Manager for Jira (which is developed by my team) to easily delete and keep labels under control in Jira.

Hi Mertcan - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Labels are globally available in Jira. Just because you might not be using that label, if you delete it, it will delete it in the entire system, including for others who are using it.
I suggest you start using Components instead of labels. Then those will be just for your project and will not be affected by others.

In Jira Cloud, default labels (i.e., ones that auto-suggest or auto-complete when typing) are not stored separately — labels are just free text added to issues. Jira doesn't have a concept of “default” or pre-defined labels, so You cannot delete labels globally in the UI like custom fields or statuses.
Hope this helps
