Hiding JQL of a filter

Manoj Kumar April 10, 2020

Hi All,

I have created a search filter: updated >= -1d ORDER BY created DESC

Now i want that the other logged in users can access this filter without viewing it's JQL. Is it possible?

Hi Manoj,

this is an interesting question. If you don't mind could you please explain the requirement behind hiding the specific JQL query of a filter?

I never came across such an requirement and like Stephen said there is most likely no (easy) option to hide it but I'd be happy for better understanding if you could describe the use case any further.

Cheers,
Daniel

@Daniel Ebers

Don't know the exact reason but i came across such a requirement from my client where the business team shouldn't have the visibility of the jql query of the filters

Hi @Manoj Kumar

It's not possible as far as I'm aware - the user needs access to the filter to see the results and with access can see the JQL.

Access to the filter is required when either viewing directly or via a dashboard, Confluence page or similar.

Of course if you provide the results on a dashboard gadget or Confluence page the JQL isn't visible by default - the user would have to click to see the actual filter in an issue search - so this might be an alternative option here?

Remember the user doesn't have permission to edit the filter - only the filter owner. So even though they can view the JQL, they couldn't modify it.
