My team has a JIRA app with version 8.5.9 and there are some security fixes reported in the link:- https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-71185?src=confmacro&error=login_required&error_description=Login+required&state=c32b00a0-c74b-498d-b1f2-1c7ff57153f9 which was released on JUN 2020 and the version my team is using is of OCT 2020,kindly let us know if we can stay on version 8.5.9 or its required to upgrade.

You need to upgrade to get that fixed. It says 8.9 in the fix versions, so anything over 8.9 should contain the fix as well as 8.9
