Hi I am very new in jira and i want know what exartly the system generated post function are doing. specially 3rd one mentioned below.

  1. Set issue status to the linked status of the destination workflow step.
  2. Re-index an issue to keep indexes in sync with the database.
  3. Fire a Generic Event event that can be processed by the listeners.

It does what it says - when the 3rd line runs, it fires an event.

Events are, well, um, "events" that other bits of code can pick up.  It's a bit like having your issue jump up and down yelling "something just happened" to the rest of Jira.  By default, the only listener really built in to JIRA is the one that sends emails via the notifications.   But you can add and write others to pick up and process events.
