Hi all,

I'm not sure I fully understand how the Time Tracking works in Jira.

So far, we estimate only on story points for story issue types.

We now want to introduce Time Tracking for sub-tasks to log the hours/days.

I know that developers need to do an estimate of how many hours a sub-task will take, and then log how much time they actually spent.

The screenshot below doesn't explicitly guide where to write the 'Estimated Time'.

  1. Is it the 'Time Remaining'?
  2. When will the developer write the actual time worked? In the Log Time in the Resolve Screen?
  3. Is there a way to get the time count from the moment the subtask is transitioned from Open to In Development and all the way till it gets closed, so it will be logged in automatically?

Hello,

For estimating time you should add the Time tracking field to your screen. Usually you add this field to the create sub-task screen. You will have the field Original Estimate, where you add your estimation. Then on resolving the issue, you fill the Log time field, which is how much time was spent on the issue.

I found the issue.

The 'estimate' field was missing, causing confusion on how to use this :)
