We are using a Next Gen project and have been using Issue Type Icons to visually represent the readiness of a story in our backlog. When a story was sprint ready we would change the issue type, this could be done easily by clicking on the icon in the side pane and selecting the new type.

This has recently stopped being possible, when the new type is selected the Move Issue wizard is launched and what was once 1 click is now a horrible process. Jira please can you change it back?!!!

Hello Robert,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

The reason why you get redirected to the move client when you change the issue type of a Next-gen project is that it uses independent workflows for each issue type.

This happens because of the project scoped unique entities configured in the Next-gen architecture, as further explained in the documentation below:

Core concepts behind Jira Cloud next-gen projects

That being said, I understand that this behavior goes against the proposal of Next-gen template, which should provide a simpler and straight to the point solution for those users who felt overwhelmed by the complexity of JIRA Classic template and requested.

That's why I created the following feature request to improve this functionality:

Change issue type in Next-gen redirect you to the Move Client
