I agree with @Nikola Perisic, that's the easiest way if you're using the List view.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you're looking to preserve the Initiative → Epic hierarchy, the standard export may not be enough depending on the fields you include.

I'd recommend adding the Parent or Parent Link field to the export. That way you can easily recreate the hierarchy in Excel using filters or a pivot table. If you're using Advanced Roadmaps, you can also export directly from the Plan if that's where you're viewing the hierarchy.

the List view export that @Nikola Perisic described works well, and I agree with @Brita Moorus that adding the Parent field is the key step. The native export gives you a flat table, so the Initiative to Epic relationship only survives as a Parent column that you then rebuild in Excel with filters or a pivot table.

If you'd rather skip the rebuilding step and are open to apps from the Atlassian Marketplace, JXL for Jira can export the hierarchy directly:

• A sheet shows your Initiatives as a tree, with Epics (and Stories, if you want) nested underneath, based on the Parent field.
• Exporting the sheet to XLSX or CSV preserves that structure, so the file already reflects the Initiative > Epic hierarchy.
• You can also select any range of cells and copy-paste it straight into Excel or Google Sheets.

It is simple:

1. Click "Filters" on the Jira left-bar, then "Search work items".
2. Switch to the JQL mode on the top.
3. Run this JQL search: "Epic Name" is not EMPTY (It will return all work items that has an epic set.)
4. Click the column icon on the top right of the work item table.
5. Add the column "Epic".
6. Add other columns you wanted to see in Excel.
7. Export the work items to a Excel spreadsheet using the Better Excel Exporter app (it supports the "Epic" field and everything else).

You need to select List view from your board navigation. If you cannot find it, you need to look for + icon and add it from there. Then you check the issues that you want to export, then click on three dots and find Export. From there you will have options like CSV, XLSX, etc.
