Gnatt charts for Jira where we can embed the Gnatt charts to external public websites

Leo Chow January 27, 2024

Hi guys, does anyone know if Jira itself (or through any Jira plugins) will allow us to create Gnatt charts where the Gnatt charts can be embedded to external public websites?

If I am not wrong, I think Jira itself doesn't have a feature to create Gnatt charts. If so, then which Jira plugins will allow us to both create Gnatt charts and embed Gnatt charts to external public websites?

We have a team of about 15-20 people. Would be great if there are any Jira plugins which can do the above for free. Alternatively, would be great if there are any Jira plugins which can do the above at minimal cost.

Would really appreciate any help on this. Many thanks in advance!

Hi @Leo Chow and welcome to the Community!

I think your question is missing some context about the goals you wish to achieve here:

  • Is it about communicating timelines of development work, a product roadmap, ...?
  • Do you want to interact with people outside of your organisation?
  • Why specifically a gantt chart?

Pretty soon, it will become possible to share views from Jira Product Discovery with external stakeholders. If you're developing products and want to share roadmaps, that may be a perfect way to meet your requirements.

On a premium plan, advanced roadmaps allows you to share a read only view of a plan or create a static image of a plan that you can embed. Obviously, both options may not be optimal since either the data is not updated (cfr the image) or people need access to your plan to be able to see the data (sharing the view).

While many Gantt apps exist in the Atlassian Marketplace, you may run into the same limitation that your users need to have access to the data in Jira in order to view what's in there.

And so finally, you may have to turn to focused reporting apps that are capable to pull in and visualise your Jira data as reports. Think about the bigger BI reporting apps out there and so on.

But first of all, take a step back and be more specific at what your want to share and what is the best form to do it in.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Walter Buggenhout thank you for your response.

I have the following questions:

1) Does Jira Product Discovery provides Gantt charts? We need Gantt chart visualizations to show the progress of our projects (over time) hitting milestones etc.

2) We need the Gantt charts to be able to be embedded into external sites (need both static and dynamic Gantt charts, dynamic means the chart can update in real time) where this external site can be shared with the public preferably the public not needing to have a Jira account.

3) If Jira itself can't currently do the above, would you happen to know any Jira Gantt apps or any Jira focused-reporting apps which can do the 2 points above (or close to the 2 points above)?

If there is a way to do the 2 points above, my organization will be choosing to stay with Jira. Would greatly appreciate your help on this!

Hi @Walter Buggenhout I can see Jira itself has this thing called the "timeline view":

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/what-is-the-timeline-view-and-how-do-i-use-it/

Is this "timeline view" chart able to do point 2 above (ie. the embedding part)?
