Gaant Chart and Custom Time Tracking

Hi,

We are evaluating the possibility of using Jira/Confluence for project management within our company. Time tracking is of particular importance to us, and whist the product fits most of what we want to do, we have a couple of requirements that I don't seem to be able to achieve.

1) We need to be able to produce a gaant chart for a project based on the tasks defined within it. I don't want to have to purchase a third-party plugin to do this though really - I would have thought it would be a major requirement of any PM software?? I'm no sure whether this fits into Jira or Confluence?

2) We have an office administrator who collates time across our projects for billing purposes. I therefore would need to be able to generate cross-project detailed time report (by user). I.e.

Project Title     Task Title        User      Time Logged

I am currently using a server install of Jira and Confluence, however we would likely go cloud if the products prove suitable.

Hi @[deleted] and welcome to the Community. I hope the following helps...

• First and foremost - if you are thinking of Cloud then I recommend to evaluate there rather than server. The code bases are separate and, while in many ways they are similar, there are big differences as well.
• Gantt - With one exception OOTB Jira does not offer Gantt/Pert. Certainly there are addons and then there is Atlassian's own Portfolio product so I suggest you evaluate these if desired. I'm not a big fan of Gantt TBH. The one exception is w/ Cloud there is a "Roadmap" feature that applies to Next-gen only projects. Classic project templates and Server do not have this feature. Roadmap, however, is not a replacement for a full-blown MS-Project application but might meet your requirements. Understand that NG projects can be quite limiting for some projects/users.
• Time Tracking - You can certainly do cross-project time reporting OOTB. However, depending on your requirements you may find them too limiting. If so there are addons, e.g. Tempo (powerful - $$) and Time Reports Pro (solid - $).

Thanks for the reply; Yes I did have a cloud account, however I registered it a while back and never got round to doing the evaluation so it expired.

I'm surprised that a project management tool doesn't offer a Gantt view - but I guess if that's the case the it's just the way it is.

Am I able to write custom time reports then, like I can with issues?
