Context

As we prepare to migrate from Jira Server to Cloud, we considering how to make the product work for us.

Better Edit UX?

One annoyance with Cloud is the small screen areas provided for editing content (primarily description and comment fields). The ones we use every day.

Jira Server had the same problem - but allowed custom CSS to increase the usable screen area for editing description and comment fields. Sadly this is not possible in Jira Cloud :-(

I note that Atlassian has received many customer suggestions about screen layouts over the years - here are a few:

Some are closed as 'Won't fix' but a bunch are still being ignored open. The message from users seems to be they want (editing) fields in Jira to make better use of the screen.

If these affect your team - perhaps you should vote for some.

Solutions?

The left-hand project navigation options can be shown/hidden using the '[' shortcut. But this doesn't increase the screen area dedicated to the 'editor' - it increases the margin at the side!

Perhaps there should be an option to show/hide the issue detail sidebar (on the right)? AND expand the width of the main content (description, comments, etc). Doh! Unfortunately someone moved buttons to transition issue states into the detail pane - so this probably won't happen :-|

Could Jira's rich-text editor have a full-screen mode? like WordPress does.

Are there any apps that solve this?

Are there any Atlassian Product Managers listening?
