Finished stories are disappearing in backlog overview.

When I change a story from the backlog to finished, it disappears from the backlog overview. I would like to have a clear overview of all (completed) stories about the past sprints. Is there a way to make this visible.

Welcome to the Community!

The backlog is a list of issues that need attention.  By definition, completed stories do not need any attention, they're finished, so they will not appear in a backlog.

You can still search for issues, dig out their sprints and all activity and so-on, but as a completed issue is done, it won't appear in a backlog.

While I understand the rationale for the approach, it is not consistent in the Backlog view.

If the Backlog view is meant to only show items requiring attention, then it should not show the completed Sprints either. It does show them, though, which poses several UX issues:
1. It clutters the view with information that brings no value. For the past Sprints, I am interested to see e.g. a) which items were delivered b) what was the original number of Story Points c) what was the number of Story Points delivered. I cannot get this information from the Backlog view though, instead I see a long list of the titles of the Sprints and their durations.
2. It suggests incorrect information. The Done items are not only not displayed, but also not considered in the issue or Story Points count. Therefore, I am presented with the information that Sprint X includes 0 issues and that there are 0 SP left in todo, inprogress or done statuses.

A good, consistent approach would be to show all the items in the Backlog (including the Done ones) while giving the user an option to filter out the inactive items (that would include both the Done issues and the completed Sprints).
