Filter in Task to show open sub-tasks also includes sub-tasks which are Done or Closed

In one of my projects (which has a custom workflow), when I open a task with sub-tasks and the set the sub-task filter to "Show Open", I still see the sub-tasks which have status Done or Closed. Is this a bug or a feature?
