I wanted to create a filter to be able to quickly view a certain set of issues. However I noticed after I created the filter, my Jira backlog board only showed my filter criteria... basically I had filtered my backlog with my filyter criteria...
This is not what I wanted. I am unsure if its possible to create a detailed filter, but also maintain my standard project backlog board?
So it seems that maybe you edited your board's filter and saved it maybe? If you simply want to create an save a filter unrelated to your board - click on the search bar > advanced search for issues > create your JQL/filter and click save and give it a name. This will not impact your current board(s).
Yes, that seems to be what I did.
I am trying to better understand how many open story points remaining and creating my own filter (and manually counting story points) seems to be the best way.

You might have a look at this related post as there are some good 'story point summing' options that you may find useful - JQL-Query-for-Summing-Completed-Story-Points-Per-Assignee .
good luck!

Hi @BlueRock
You can have several filters, for example, in one you can do it just for your work and the other you can do it with those more standard needs that you want to have grouped together.
As for the dashboards, in addition to the fact that you can have several gadgets with different filters, you can also have two dashboards, where in one of them you put your information and in the other, for example, more general information or your team.
I hope I have clarified your doubt.
Regards
