Filter all the stories by selected user that is assigned to at least one subtasks

Ameer Kawar September 25, 2023

In the active sprint view, we filter by user.

When user is selected I would like to see all the stories that the selected user is assigned to at least one subtask of each story (user is not necessary to be assigned to the story).

Is it possible in any way in Jira?

Thanks

Hi @Ameer Kawar -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

No, that is not possible with out-of-the-box features.

Although it would appear Quick Filters (company-managed projects) or Custom Filters (team-managed projects) could help, both use JQL and out-of-the-box JQL cannot perform queries like that.

If you have marketplace addons which enhance JQL, perhaps this is possible if the addon supports such join queries.

A work-around would be to have a custom field in stories which also tracks the assignees of any child, subtasks (and which is updated using and automation rule).  That custom field could then be easily filtered with a Quick Filter (or Custom Filter).

Kind regards,
Bill

Hey,
I noticed that the Subtasks has the same workflow as the story and maybe that's why it is displayed on the same board.

I just dont have permissions, and I would like to request this (and this isnt that easy :( ) but if you can please explain how it is displayed if we configure the subtasks to a different workflow? maybe this can help because then we have the story at one board and the subtasks in another?

Issues display on a board based on:

  • the saved filter
  • the status values mapped to columns
  • for a Scrum board the active sprint
  • for a Kanban board any sub-filter which is applied
  • for a Kanban board the "Hide completed issues older than" setting
  • and any Quick Filters or Custom Filters applied

And so the workflow (which contains the status values) is relevant when the status values are mapped to the board columns.
