When creating an issue/bug we have fields like 'Defect Category' and 'Functional Area' that have a list of dropdown items in which you can select the appropriate item.
I'm trying to find out how to edit and amend/add to this dropdown list of items.
We have a company managed instance so understand the Admin is probably the only person who may be able to do this but the Admin doesn;t know how to add to or amend these lists/dropdowns in the specific fields.
Hi @Tracey Hanna Dailhou , welcome to the community.
Here are the basic instructions.
please note that if you share this field with other projects, then you may want to set up a different context if you don't want to change, the values presented in these other projects. I encourage your admin to go to the Atlassian support site and check out the documentation for more details on these procedures. It is important for administrators to understand the application of changes made, especially and company manage projects.
let me know if you have success or need more assistance here.

The starting point for this is the Settings cog in the top right corner of the Jira screen.
From the drop down select Work Items:
Then from the left hand navigation bar select Custom Fields:
Then in the search bar type the field name:
The field name should be shown, click on the ... to the right and select Contexts and Default value:
From the configure custom fields screen click on Edit Options:

@Stephen_Lugton the only thing I would add to your answer is a reminder that if they are working in a company managed project that they need to know that any changes made to that field will be reflected system wide.
