Field Configuration Scheme missing in overview page

Hello,

We are currently managing three projects: SD, DP, and FSS. Among these, SD is categorized as a service project, while DP and FSS are categorized as software projects. Each of these projects is linked to a singular 'Field Configuration Scheme' and a corresponding 'Field Configuration'. These associations can be accessed by navigating to Project Settings -> Summary and then locating them under the 'Fields' section.

However, when I access the overview page by selecting Settings (located in the upper right corner) -> Issues, a panel appears on the left-hand side titled 'Fields'. This panel has three sections for Custom Fields, Field Configurations, and Field Configuration Schemes.

Clicking into 'Field Configuration Schemes', I am only presented with the 'Field Configuration Scheme' for the SD project. Both DP and FSS projects share an identical 'Field Configuration Scheme', which differs from that of SD. Curiously, the Field Configuration Scheme linked with projects DP and FSS is absent from this particular overview page. Nonetheless, the Field Configuration Scheme is visible when viewing the Summary page for both the DP and FSS projects. Similarly, referring to the same overview page, I can observe the Field Configurations. For Project SD, the Field Configuration and its association with the appropriate Field Configuration Scheme are both visible. On the other hand, even though projects DP and FSS share the same Field Configuration and is visible, this overview page does not indicate its association with a Field Configuration Scheme.

As a result, I am left wondering why the overview page lacks the 'Field Configuration Scheme' for projects DP and FSS, especially when it is evident on the respective Summary pages of these projects.

This situation becomes crucial as I intend to modify the Field Configuration for the FSS project. Yet, I don't know if that will work without a linked scheme associate with it. Is the Field Configuration scheme for projects DP and FSS allready deleted, and still visible at the Summary page of the project? Can I restore the Field Configuration scheme so that it is visible in the overview page?

Hi @Roland Uittenbogaard

New Jira software projects use the System Default Field Configuration this is the ootb scheme that is in Jira.

This scheme can't be edited, as its the default. Atlassian has hidden this scheme so it can't be deleted by accident

Any new Jira Software project you create via a template will use this scheme, unless you want to have a different one.

Then you have the option to use and existing one or create a new field configuration scheme and choose the field configuration you want to use.

Via the following link you can find load more information within the Atlassian documentation on this topic.

I hope this will make you understand your request.

Hi Marc,

Oh jee, you respond really fast and now I understand why it is not visible. I was really confused by this.

Thank you very much for your answer!

@Marc - Devoteam

Hi, I have two projects DP and FSS. For Fields, both projects use the 'System Default Field Configuration' scheme and both projects use the 'Default Field Configuration'.

On the DP project we don't want Required Fields but for the FSS project we do want Required Fields. So the projects should not have the same 'Default Field Configuration'.

I allready made a copy of the 'Default Field Configuration' and renamed it to 'FSS Default Field Configuration' and now I want to use it for the FSS project.

I am trying but cannot find how to do that, also not with Jira documentation. If I go to Field Configuration it says: 'Field Configurations are activated by placing them into Field Configuration Schemes, and then associating a scheme with one or more projects.' How can I place the new 'FSS Default Field Configuration' into the 'System Default Field Configuration' scheme, only for project FSS?

Hi @Roland Uittenbogaard

This is not possible.

The System default Field Configuration Scheme isn't changeable, it holds the Default Field Configuration by default

You need to create a new Field Configuration Scheme and associate your new Field Configuration.

Then Change the Field Configuration Scheme on your project.
