Federated accounts

I have a jira + confluence account. They ask me for a new account, that is, a different one. But they ask me to be a Federated. I don't understand the concept, both accounts must be linked?

I would very much like to ask the person who told you what they think it means.

But, to me, it suggests you are using Atlassian stuff on an Enterprise licence.  This allows each of your users to have a single account, but it has access to many Atlassian systems for a single cost for that person.  It may also mean you've got many systems that you have linked together so that they look a lot like a single one.

But, you'll really need the people who asked you to do this to confirm what they mean.
