When Jira shows this error in the log, it means that Jira cannot reach the crowd instance for some reason. Please try to follow the cause steps listed in Crowd user authentication fails with 'Directory 'X' is not functional during authentication' error.
Has any network changes been made recently? Such as changing the address of either Jira or Crowd instances?
Is Crowd up and running right now?
If you do not have access to administer Crowd, you can likely still be able to login as an Admin in the internal Jira user directory by following the guide: Retrieving the Jira Administrator.
