Expose a project for gathering info

I need to create something similar but thinking about doing this in software instead. To expose a project for gathering info on new features and post release notes. I have so far found that either way we have to expose the site to the public which could cause for spammers. Is there something else we can do like what Jira does so that they have to have an account to display such info to a group of people. Is there a plugin that works. We are on server version.
