Exporting/Importing Jira Projects from One Cloud instance to another

Hafiz.Butt January 18, 2024

We are planning to migrate/import a few projects from another Org’s cloud instance to ours.

The issue is that we cannot grant Org admin access for the other person (org admin) to our instance and vice versa due to legal reasons.

c2c migration option is not suitable for us as it requires the person to have org admin rights in both orgs.

We just have a few projects so we are exploring the options where we can just do an Export of a few projects we need to (One by One or all together) in a csv or other format and Import it to our instance Manually? Instead doing the whole migration tools or Datacenter Import/export thing!

is there a way to do this?

All the help will be highly appreciated.

Best,

Hafiz

Hello @Hafiz.Butt ,

Welcome to the community!

I suppose you are looking for this feature in Jira cloud.

Import via CSV: This feature is useful when the aim is to import issues only, and not the project configurations. It is crucial to set up an exact replica of the source project on the destination project, ensuring that the project settings, such as issue type, hierarchy, fields, status, workflow, and validation, etc., are identical. Otherwise, the import may fail.
The process involves exporting the issues from the source project and importing them via CSV to the destination project. This method is particularly useful when you want to move specific sets of issues while maintaining the original project configurations.

Hope you will find it helpful.

Thanks Himanshi.

We tried this approach but and had a few issues:

Issue Link are not working

Epic Links are not working

Attachments not available etc.

We have about 700 issues to move and I the option to create another CSV for Epic Links to much complicated to map manually for all 700 issues. Any Work around for this?

Also, I think for the attachments issue, maybe it is possible that the import is not working because we don't have access tot he other org from where we are trying to export the project from. Your thoughts?

best,

Hafiz
