I have a project setup in Jira Server. I want to export the project and import it to the Jira cloud instance. I found this plugin.

But it is only available for the Jira server. It is not available for Jira Cloud.

Is there any way or plugin through which I could import the project into Cloud from Jira Server?

Hi @Jamshaid

No, there isn't a way to import a project from server to cloud.

What you could do is:

  • Export your workflows and import them to marketplace, so as to download them on the cloud
  • Export your data from server as csv
  • Create on cloud you screen, field, issue security, issue type, issue screen types (and workflow scheme) and notification schemes
  • Make sure your users on server (and/or the people you are involved in the project) are already on cloud
  • Create a new project on cloud
  • Associate with the above project the newly created schemes (for the workflow scheme, you have to associate the workflows you downloaded)
  • Import you data

It's not an easy procedure..

Hi @Jamshaid are your users located in the Jira Internal Directory of synced from an external LDAP/AD directory?

hi @Dave Mathijs
Could not get your question. My Jira Server is hosted on Docker and Jira cloud is on atlassian.com. I think both are independant

The reason I'm asking is there may be a possibility to run a Cloud migration via JCMA, only select users related to projects, no app data and select only that specific project to migrate to cloud.

I don't have many users added to the project. All the users are available on the Jira Cloud

So, it is possible via the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA). Only thing is that your project key cannot yet exist in Jira Cloud and that custom fields with the same name may be created as duplicate. The same goes for other configurations.

Hi, here's a short version of the runbook:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant installed on your Server instance.
  • Go to SystemImport and ExportMigrate to cloud
  • In your Migrations dashboard, click the blue Create new migration button and follow the following steps:

  1. Connect to cloud
Name your migration and sign in to your Atlassian cloud site that you're migrating to.
  2. Choose what to migrate
    1. Advanced Roadmap plans > Skip plans
    2. Projects > Select the project you would like to migrate and choose Project data All (project configuration, issues and attachments)
    3. Users and groups > Select "Only users and groups related to the selected projects" and "Migrate users and groups separately"
    4. Apps > Select None and click on the blue "Apply Changes" button
  3. Check for errors
    1. Click the blue Check for errors
  4. Review
    1. Review possible errors and check the Logs and reports
  5. Migrate now or later
    1. Click the "Save" button to save your configuration and run the migration at the desired date

Please note that your Server Site MAY NOT BE USED by any user during the migration process or migration will possibly failed.
