Hello all,
Working as a JIRA administrator I am for now failing to meet one of my users' need that maybe you can help me with :
For a given project including both IT people and Business people, the manager would like to have, for each object, estimated and spent time separated for IT and Business.
Example : User Story A - 3h Estimate IT - 5h Estimate Business - 2h Spent IT - 7h Spent Business.
I managed the estimated part with custom fields without problem but I did not find a way to get spent times in the same way from the Tempo addon that we use for the time tracking.
First of all is there a way to do so? (Via Tempo's teams, Eazy BI reporting or ...?)
And if yes, what would be the best way to implement it?
Thank you in advance for your responses !
Best regards
Hi Matthieu,
Tempo Timesheets and EazyBI can both meet this need. Tempo is a bit more purpose built and can easily report by teams. Cheers!
Hi Joshua,
Thanks for your response !
Could you detail a bit more the way to do it with Eazy BI please?
We just deployed this addon and it is still quite unfamiliar for me and as far as i know we don't have Tempo Planner only Tempo Timesheet (which seems to make unavailable the solution in the link that you send me).
When I am trying through Eazy BI I can't find a way to get the teams (I can easily enough display which user has tracked time on an issue but not if he is a business or IT type of user). I am missing a needed configuration in my JIRA Project or in my import maybe?
I hope I explain it well enough !
Thank you for your time,
Matthieu

Hi Matthieu,
in Tempo Jira custom fields are included in the excel report so I would see this an easy win but of course you use that approach to create a report/dashboard in Jira.
I am not too familiar with EazyBI to give you an advise here. But as far as I understand EazyBI you would need to import the JIra issues, the Tempo worklogs and the Tempo teams and match them somehow together. Maybe to ask the capable support from EazyBI.
Could you give me some more details how your solution looks like so far? Do you have a customfield "Estimate IT" and another "Estimate Business"? Maybe easier to split the issue into two?

Hello !
Thank you for your response !
No problem for Eazy BI, I am fine with Tempo if it is doable.
Yes for now I have 2 custom fields "IT Estimate" and "Business Estimate" that I can fill through my user stories/subtasks interfaces and one test team in which I assigned myself to make tests of time tracking.
The custom fields do not appear in my excel export of my tempo timesheet, did i miss a configuration? Yes, if possible I would prefer to build a dashboard directly in Jira not to have to rely on more than 1 tool.
Yes if it is not possible to do with one object I can still make the users split their issues but as the project is quite big (600+ objects), I would prefer doing otherwise if I can.
Thanks in advance !
Matthieu

Hi Matthieu,
yes you will need to "activate" your Jira custom fields in the Tempo exports. Please refer to the documentation on how to achieve that.

Hi again,
Thank you for the link !
However it seems quite complicated I don't want my users (or me) to have many manually tasks to update this reporting.
I think I will be going by asking them to split their issues in 2 and consolidate at the upper level with eazy BI.
Thanks anyway !
Regards,
Matthieu

Hi @Matthieu Oudeau ,
In the recent eazyBI version (6.1.v) there is a possibility to split Hours spent by the new dimension Logged by Team (see more about integration with Tempo app here - https://docs.eazybi.com/eazybijira/data-import/data-from-jira-and-apps/tempo)
To get a measure for the IT team, you should create a measure in Measure dimension:
([Measures].[Hours spent],
[Logged by team].[IT])
And in a similar way, you can create a measure for the Business team.

Hello @Gerda Grantiņa !
Thank you for your response !
Yes indeed, I just upgraded my environment to the version 6.1 and I saw that this new functionality could solve a part of my problem (this one or the new custom hierarchy functionality that seems a bit more flexible to me) :)
But I still could not find an elegant solution for splitting the time planned without Tempo Planner, (All i can see for now is managing this through distinct custom fields) maybe I need to consider its add to our environment.
Best regards,
Matthieu

Hi @Matthieu Oudeau ,
I am glad to hear that the new dimension could solve part of your problem.
Can you give more details about how you are currently managing the estimated time per team in Jira issues? As I understand then it is a numeric worklog attribute when you log time? Or is it some other solution?
Based on that I can check if there are some report possibilities within eazyBI.

Thanks for your time !
For now, we have two custom fields taking numeric values for the estimated times on a given object :
- estimated IT
- estimated Business
And have no way to split the spent time (this is what i can solve with the new functionality you mentioned).
What I am trying to do now is get rid of these custom fields (because the team is planning to increase the number that they need : IT, Sales, Purchasing etc...) and I am looking for the best way to do that. If possible without having to duplicates tickets for all teams.
I feel like I am not really clear I hope that you can understand me :D
Thanks in advance,
Matthieu

Hi @Matthieu Oudeau ,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to import Tempo numeric worklog attributes in eazyBI, but we have this improvement in our backlog, and I will upvote it with your vote as well. Currently, I cannot provide any estimates on when it could be implemented.
Sometimes it is possible to tailor some special solution for a specific use case, maybe it could be possible in this case as well but then it is best to write directly to our support - support@eazyBI.com as it won't be a solution that can work for everyone.

Hello @Gerda Grantiņa !
It's alright, I will manage with custom fields for now, thank you for your time !
