Error while saving Balsamiq mockup in JIRA

Saving Balsamiq mockups in JIRA causes timeout. Error message says:

ERROR saving mockup

([IOErrorEvent

type="ioError"

bubbles=false

cancelable=false

eventPhage=2 text="Error#2032"]). Use

Mockup/Export Mockup

XML... to save your changes somewhere!

Network trace shows call to:

https://some_company.atlassian.net/plugins/servlet/com.balsamiq.mockups?do=save&issue=SDAT-76

Response is: 500 Internal Server Error

Futher investigation shows that this issue only happens when I am trying to save a mockup that has incorporates a fairly large color image. I have temporarily worked around the issue by enabling "stetch" mode for the image and thus reducing the size of the rendered preview image that is posted to the API call.

This is still an issue but there is a workaround.
