Error saving work item, linked issues required

Narcís Calvet

I'm creating new WBS Gantt-Chart boards at my Jira spaces. When adding work items from the WBS Gantt-Chart board and saving them I always get an error message:

"Errors are found. So, saving is canceled

Story xxxx: Linnked Issues is required"

Regardles of the work item type that I use.

Why does this happen and how can I solve the problem?

Hello @Narcís Calvet,

Thank you for your question. I'm Cristiano, with the Ricksoft Support Team.

Would it be possible to share a screenshot of said error? That would really help

Also:

- Is the project a team-managed or a company-managed project?

- Does this error happen only when adding items, or when changing existing items as well?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Regards,

Cristiano Alves

Hello @Cristiano Antonio Alves ,

Thanks for your reply.

This is a company-managed project and the error occurs when adding new items. Modifying existing items (created and linked with other issues from the backlog) works fine. Below a screenshot, adding the work item in the rectangle and saving the Gantt caused the error. It happens with any kind of work item and any position in the hierarchy, even with an empty project.

Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Hello @Narcís Calvet ,

Sorry for the delay, I had not received the notification of the answer.

We would like to investigate a little deeper on this issue, such as issue field details and Gantt settings.

As this could contain possible private information, it would be better to open a ticket directly with us.

If you wish to continue here:

- What's the issue type of the issues in question?

- Are these types added to the project?

- Could you share the screenshot of the "Global configuration" settings?

- Is the Gantt-Chart being saved in Jira Fields or the app's own data?

Hello Cristiano,

No problem.

Do you prefer me to open a ticket or continue here? In the meantime:

  • The issue occurs with any Jira work item.
  • No, they are not being added. For now I managed to add work items using Jira's standard backlog and the default parent-child relationship.
  • Sure, here it is. AFAIK, nothing has been changed from the default:msedge_ospwxxDW7D.png
  • I don't know how to answer this: "Is the Gantt-Chart being saved in Jira Fields or the app's own data?". Can you please provide some more information on how I can check that?

Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Hello @Narcís Calvet ,

Thank you for the information. As mentioned, since we will ask for some internal information, it should be better to open the ticket. You can refer to the same images listed here, and also the link to the community question for easier first response. Thank you for understanding.

Hello @Narcís Calvet

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

If you try to create the items outside of the Gantt board, through the Jira native item creation option, are you also required to provide linked issues?

  • If so then there could be a Rule/Validator in the workflow(s) for the item types in the project in which you are work, which requires inclusion of linked issues (items) as part of item creation.
  • If you think that requirement should not be in place you would need to contact your project and Jira administrators to get that changed.

If you are not required to provide linked issue/item information when using the Jira native item creation functionality to create the same type of items in the same project, then this might be related to the Gantt app that you are using.

In either case you will likely need assistance from either or both the administrator of the project and the administrators of your Jira application.

Hello @Trudy Claspill,

Thanks for your reply.

No, I can create work items without problems using the standard Jira workflow, from the backlog for example. Then, I can manually link work items to represent the desired hierarchy in the Gantt app.

I'm in direct contact with both admins to request any change that migth be required.

Best regards,

Narcís
