Epics showing up in backlog

Hi!

I'm running into an issue where I am trying to create a sprint board using a saved filter but for some reason the board is pulling Epics into the backlog instead of the linked Stories.

Here is the filter:

project in (project1, project2, project3) ORDER BY Rank ASC

The query returns 200+ results.  However the board only has 98 items on it.  It shows the Epics and the issues without Epics.  None of the Stories with assigned Epics can be seen.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Hello @rozmeen.khudabux

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Per your description, I understand the backlog of your Scrum board is only returning Epics and issues with no Epics, although the board filter is returning Stories assigned to Epics too.

Please, check the following steps to troubleshoot the possible reasons for this restriction:

  1. Navigate to your board > Click in the three dots menu at the top-right corner (...) >  Board settings > Swimlanes
  2. Make sure the option "No swimlanes" is selected for your board
  3. Under Board settings > Columns, make sure all status are properly mapped to your columns
  4. If the projects added to the board filter are  Next-gen projects, you might be facing the bug below:
Issues from a Next-Gen project which are part of an Epic do not appear in a classic backlog when included in the filter for a classic board
If that's the case, the only way to display those issues in a Classic board would be by migrating the issues from those projects to Classic projects. Also, feel free to vote and watch the bug to increase its priority and also receive notifications about its fix implementation.

Let us know if this information helps.

Hi @Petter Gonçalves ,

Thank you for your response.  We had followed steps 1-3 as you described.  We came to the same conclusion, that we would probably need to switch over to Classic projects.  Unfortunately, we will end up losing the roadmapping feature.  I'm curious as to why this feature would not be included with all types of projects?

Thanks again for all your help!

Hello @rozmeen.khudabux

You are welcome.

Indeed, we agree with you that the roadmap feature would be a useful functionality in Next-gen and we are working to get both project templates with the same features.

Talking specifically about the roadmap feature, we have the following feature request to get it available for Classic projects:

Enable Roadmap for "classic" project

Due to the high number of votes and feedback, we have prioritized the implementation of this feature and it should be deployed in the next few weeks.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
