Epic label color background removed from board cards — please bring it back!

Hi community! 👋

After a recent Jira update, the epic label on board cards lost its colored background. What used to be a solid colored tag (e.g., orange for "Governance", purple for "Efficiency") is now just a white/transparent tag with colored text.

This change significantly hurts readability and visual scanning on the board. The colored background was one of the most useful visual cues to quickly identify which epic a card belongs to — especially on large boards with many issues.

Before: Solid colored background on the epic tag
After: White/transparent background, barely visible

Is there any way to restore the old behavior? If not, I'd like to formally request this as a UI regression to be reverted.

Please upvote if you feel the same way! 🙏

This a rehash of similar change from a year+ back that was eventually rolled back.  I agree with you, its making epic labels and statuses less visible, less impactful and harder to read.  Not a fan of this UX decision.

Came here looking for the same thing. I see everything with a transparent background, a square to the left that matches the colour of the previous background, and various outline colours (sometimes they match the square, sometimes they don't). It's also no longer uppercase text. Everything looks the same and the epic label becomes just another line of text on the card, making it difficult to immediately associate it with something.

This is also impacting "tags" that are used in the Confluence databases.  If you want to include the "hollow" tags with colored outlines, that's fine as an option.  However, getting rid of the solid color for the tags has negatively impacted the workflow for myself and several colleagues.  Why is Atlassian making choices that are worse for their customers?
