Apologies if this is simple but I am going round in circles. I have limited experience of Jira having worked with Team Foundation Server most of my career.
When I'm looking at/editing sub-tasks I want to be able to see time tracking information, when I'm looking at/editing user stories I want to be able to see estimates in story points.
Therefore I want to have different views for stories and sub-tasks but I'm just going round in circles of screen schemes and screens and fields - I hoped I could just simply set up the default view to show story points, and create a new screen for the sub-task issue type without the story points and add in the time tracking fields but I'm totally lost about how to do this.
Most of the documentation and help I can find relates to previous versions of Jira or relates to creating different screens for creating vs editing vs viewing issues.
Can anyone point me on the right track?
Many thanks in advance
Hello,
You shold create two screen schemes: one for Stores (witht the Story points field in it) and one for sub-tasks (with the timtracking field). Then find issue type screen scheme, which is used for your project, and associate created screen schemes with the correct issue type.
That would be all you have to do.
Hello Alexey, thanks for your response.
I am unclear on the relationship between a screen, a screen scheme and an issue type screen scheme - could you explain it please...
I expected a screen scheme to be a set of screens designs pertaining to different issue types, for a given project but it doesn't appear to be the case.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

That is right. A scheen scheme is a set of screens pertainging to different issue types. You provide connection between an screen scheme and an issue type throuhg issue type screen schemes.

OK... and if you go into an issue and edit it and select "Configure Fields" and add or remove fields does this modify the underlying screen/screen scheme?

No, it does not modify the underlying scheme. It just hides a field upon showing the screen. And these settings are only for your user. Also you can not add a new field, which is not present in the screen.
For example, lets say you have Field 1 and Field 2 in a screen. In the Configure Field you can just hide Field 1 and Field 2, you can not add Field 3 to the screen. And Field 1 or Field 2 will be hidden only for your user. For all other users, these fields will be visible.

@Paul Stamp You are welcome! I am glad you found the way.

Thanks Alexey - I understand it now.
I have to say the Jira UI does not help in understanding and navigating this issue... for example :
I go into my project and click on "Project settings" where I see a menu item "Screens"
When I go into this option I get a page titled "Screens" but which shows me Screen Schemes not Screens. Against each Scheme shown is a pencil icon which I assume means "Edit"
Clicking on that edit button takes me a page titled "Issues" but shows me the screens associated with that Screen Scheme.
There is an Edit button associated with each screen, which I assume will allow me to edit the Screen, but instead it allows me to pick a different screen.
If I want to actually edit the Screen which is selected I instead click on the name of the Screen!
Many thanks for your explanations though - at least know I know the underlying structures that I need to change, even if not how to navigate through the system to change them!
