Hi there,
Question: Wondering if there is any way to edit the step IDs within a built workflow?
Reason: I have started building out a dashboard and using the 'Two Dimensional Filter' to show one variable (y axis) and then separate out by status (x axis). However, the statuses are appearing in a seemingly random order, but digging into it, it looks like it is sorting by these pre-filled Step IDs in the workflow. Hoping to change the step IDs so that it orders the statuses based on the natural order of our workflow.
Any help much appreciated!
Nick

That's a very deep insight for someone "new to Jira" (that's a guess on my part - Community says your account is new), but yes, it's all to do with the IDs.
There's no way for a gadget to judge the workflow, especially when you've got more than one to report on, so it reverts to using the IDs in the database.
I don't think it uses step IDs, because workflows could be using the same step ID for different purposes, my experience is that it is the (global) status ID. For company-managed projects at least, I can't talk about the data behind team-managed projects.
Hi Nic (nice name by the way!) thanks for coming back so quickly.
Haha, I've worked with Jira in the past, but recently been getting stuck in at a deeper level!
Understood - that makes sense! We are on a company-managed project, this might be a silly question, but is there any way to amend the global IDs?

No, there's no way to change the IDs other than database hacks, which will fail unless you really understand the database.
There are no good reasons to do it either. So don't.
