Duplicate fields in Default Field configuration

rolaca11 March 17, 2020

I had a problem, where I couldn't create new Epics, because the "Epic name is required" field would pop up, even though the field has been filled.

I realized that the cause of this problem is the fact that I have ~10 custom fields called "Epic name". I followed some instructions on how to delete them and they worked, but some fields keep reappearing.

I looked into it and found that under Administration > Issues > Field configurations > Default Field Configuration there appear to be multiple duplicates of this field.

The problem is, of course, that Epic name is a required field, so I have to fill as many Epic name fields as there are in the configuration, which is annoying.

Hey @rolaca11 - Your other option might be to copy the Default Field configuration and remove the duplicates. Then link the new FC to your projects.

However, that's just a bandaid to get you functioning. I would put in a support ticket with Atlassian to see if they can help you clean up your Default FC.

I tried doing that first. Maybe I overlooked something, but I saw that I get no support from Atlassian, because I have the Starter license.

Okay, understood. Go to the project settings for that project, then click on Summary. You should be able to see which FC the project is using. Then you can change if from there if it is still using the Default.
