I've thought of this, but there was nothing in the workflow that indicated there is something wrong!

I tried to change the issueType and than close it - it did not work
Hmm.. If it is all good in the workflow, please try running the integrity checker.
I recently faced a situation similar to this and running integrity checker fixed it
