Does it seem like the Jira UI just doesn't really work right anymore?

I've been working today and cleaning up a backlog and trying different approaches in List view / All Work View and I believe there is another.

Seeing lots of odd behavior

  • If you try to adjust the rank of something in a list, it often doesn't work unless you refresh the page after you change the rank of an item
  • Trying to add a label to anything, the drop-down just like doesn't work or adds multiple labels
  • Weird delays in fields updating and you wont see the change unless you refresh the page
  • When scrolling through a list, the screen just kind of jumps back up to a different position in the list
  • Can't assign tickets to users because list doesn't populate

  • Many weird restrictions based on what view you use - for example, in some cases you can group by epic, but others no.
    • In some cases you can drag between groups but there are certain group types (goals) where this doesn't work but there's no error message.

The label selection drop-down is particularly frustrating in these views. They seemed to be set up for keyboard entry but the label selection using the keyboard doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes pressing Enter moves out of the field, sometimes it just picks another label.

I don't really understand what is going on, I've used Jira in the past and it felt way more usable and stable. Maybe this has to do with what plan I'm on?

Hello and welcome to the Community @Todd Levinson

Quick workaround for the labels field: use Tab or Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Return on Mac) to confirm multiple values.

However, the combination of issues  lagging rank, jumping scroll, and broken pickers points to a larger UI bug in the List/All work view.Check if these fields work normally on a standard board or backlog; if they do, it confirms a view-specific issue.

Since you are on Premium, open a ticket with Atlassian Support and provide a quick screen recording, your project type, and browser details so they can investigate it.

I have some advice for you, as a premium user paying for the service you entitled to get service so......If you experience any unexpected regression, please contact Atlassian to investigate it.

👋Hello @Todd Levinson,

First, I'd like to inform you that choosing a Jira plan shouldn't affect performance or graphical behavior while using the product.

Regarding the problems you mentioned, I tried to reproduce them in my environment and it's working correctly.

Have you tried checking if these problems occur in the following situations?

  1. Clearing the browser cache
  2. Using a different browser.
  3. Using an incognito window.
  4. Asking a colleague to try the same actions.

I hope this helps! 🤠

You can also check the Release Notes if you suspect this behavior has recently appeared.

Best Regards,

Jean Horn

Hi Jean! Colleagues have reported similar issues. I will try the other steps.

Could you describe the specific keyboard steps in List View to select a tag?

For example, lets say you click into a field, type some text, use the arrow to select a matching tag, what button do you press to commit that change?

Escape just reverts out of the field. Pressing return just continues selecting new tags from the list.

Did you test trying to select a label using only the keyboard?

I managed to reproduce the situation you encountered in the labels field.

In the list view, when you add all the labels you want, you simply click outside the field, perhaps in a blank space, and the field will be deselected and updated.

Could you test it? ~ 😉
