Does Portfolio for Jira work with Next-Gen Projects

The answer seems to be 'no'. This is based on wanting to add the Initiative issue type and the parent-link field that is recommended as Portfolio for Jira best practice. The Next Gen project does not seem to recognize the global Initiative issue type I created. I have to create that issue type in each Next Gen project rather than associating the global type with the project. In addition, the built-in Parent-link field is not available for adding to an issue type.
