Does Jira have coloured labels?

Ivan Hanák
September 25, 2025

Hi, I am not sure if something is wrong with my Jira, but what I noticed is some kind of coloured labels on some projects.

I am definitely not using any additional plugins to add colors to labels.

Does Jira have this functionality by default? (I recall activating some beta featured long time ago, but I am not sure what it was)

Hello @Ivan Hanák

Recently, Atlassian did announce the upcoming colored labels feature. So yes, this is an expected behavior.

Hey @Nikola Perisic do you know where/when this was announced? The mystery of coloured labels in native Jira persists!

Still today, there are some instances where all the built-in labels come up as different colours (which you can't control/customise).

And then there are some instances where all the labels are still grey.

Does anyone have an explanation?

Hello @Christopher _Berry_ Dunford

This was long time ago. And this is now a default appearance.
